It's Hot, it's Spicy, and it's Worth the Wait...Mexicue began as a Mexican BBQ food truck back in 2010, and you can tell they've been perfecting their recipes since then. Lines are out the door every weekend at their new 14th Street restaurant (with an Instragram-able green tile ceiling and whimsical light fixtures), because this truly is the perfect place for dinner or brunch. The menu features dishes that are "Mexican tradition, with a twist of the American south." With smoked, braised, charred, and pickled items on the menu, you simply can't miss the flavor - try their cashew queso with pickled red onions and homemade tortilla chips for an appetizer, followed by Nashville Hot Chicken or BBQ tacos and a brisket quesarrito (Flour tortilla with melted cheese, crispy tortilla strips & brown rice grilled on the plancha). Wash it all down with a smoky margarita and you will be counting the days until you go back again! 1720 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20009

Hunting for that extra special “statement piece” for your new apartment? Check out Miss Pixie’s – a haven for “pickers” looking for antique furniture, glassware, and artwork with character. Unlike garage sales, the price is the price, so don’t expect to haggle your way to a bottom dollar deal. But DO expect to walk away with a miniature Tiffany’s style desk lamp and an antique mahogany side-table that you just couldn’t resist. If you can’t carry it home, don’t fret – Miss Pixie’s also has an excellent in-house delivery service. 1626 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20009
A typical haunt for locals, Barcelona Wine Bar is the ideal place to enjoy a glass of wine or an expertly mixed cocktail after work. With one of the earliest happy hours along the 14th Street corridor, guests can sample tapas-style small plates for under $20 from 2:00 - 6:00pm on Thursdays and Fridays. 1622 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20009
Dine at Stephen Starr's Le Diplomate and you may think you’ve stumbled upon a Parisian café in Saint-Germain-des-Prés – with wait-staff dressed to impress, Le Diplomate does not disappoint. The atmosphere is ritzy and sophisticated, perfect for a celebratory evening or a particularly fancy brunch. Sidle up to the polished brass and marble bar for a spicy bloody Mary, and don’t leave without trying their French Onion soup, topped with crispy, gooey cheese. The menu includes traditional Americana dishes and French classics, but you can’t go wrong with their “Burger Américain” (consistently in the running for best burger in DC). 1601 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20009
